At Derma Defined, I use advanced IPL (Intense Pulse Light) technology to offer safe, effective treatments that target a variety of skin concerns—from unwanted hair to sun damage, acne, and more. Whether you’re looking to refresh your complexion or finally ditch the razor for good, IPL could be the solution your skin’s been waiting for.
IPL, is a non-invasive light-based technology that uses broad-spectrum light to penetrate the skin and target specific concerns beneath the surface. Unlike lasers, which use a single wavelength, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths of light (my IPL machine has 7 different wavelengths), making it versatile and customizable for a range of skin types and issues.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) uses light energy to gently heat and disable hair follicles, reducing their ability to regrow hair—without harming the surrounding skin. With a series of treatments, you’ll notice finer regrowth, slower hair return, fewer ingrowns, and smoother, longer-lasting results.

I’m Kelsey Stegmeier, a trained and certified Advanced Clinical Esthetician with hands-on experience using the Luvo Lucent IPL system. I take time to understand your skin and goals before recommending any treatment—and that starts with a complimentary consultation. IPL treatments are never one-size-fits-all, which is why I tailor each session to suit your skin type, condition, and desired results.
Your IPL treatment will take place right here in my private, professional studio in High River, AB. Sessions are typically quick, with little to no downtime. Some redness or warmth is normal, but most clients return to daily activities right away.
For permanent hair reduction, a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart is recommended. Skin rejuvenation, acne, and pigmentation concerns may also require multiple sessions for best results.

IPL works best on lighter skin tones with darker hair or pigment. During your consultation, I’ll assess your skin type and goals to ensure IPL is safe and effective for you. If it’s not the best fit, I’ll recommend an alternative.
That depends on the treatment area and what we’re targeting. Hair reduction typically requires 6–8 sessions, spaced a few weeks apart. For acne, pigmentation, or vascular issues, you may see results in 3–6 sessions. I’ll create a custom plan based on your skin and progress.
Most clients describe IPL as a quick, warm snap—like a rubber band. It’s tolerable, and the Luvo Lucent system is designed with comfort in mind. Some areas may be more sensitive, but we’ll take it slow and adjust settings as needed.
Downtime is minimal. You may experience some redness or warmth, similar to a mild sunburn, which usually fades within a few hours. I’ll give you aftercare tips to keep your skin calm and protected.
IPL is safest on skin that hasn’t been recently tanned, so it’s best done outside of heavy sun exposure months. We’ll chat about your sun habits in consultation to keep your skin safe and get the best results.
